Once you have narrowed down your
choices and are seriously considering renting specific places you
should talk to the neighbors, and even the former tenants if you can
locate them, about problems past residents experienced either with the
place itself or the landlord. Basically, you need to do the same for
yourself that your landlord will do for his or herself, you need to
check the background of the person you are dealing with.
Don’t look for an absolute perfect landlord because odds are that you
will not find one. You may not even find one that doesn’t have at least
one major flaw but by discovering what problems others have had, you
will better know what to prepare yourself for.
