Don’t let the shrink wrapped seals fool you, a book is a book.
When you begin shopping for your textbooks, you have to consider your
options. Otherwise, you’ll be paying more than two hundred
dollars on some calculus book you’ll never use after December. So
where can you find your books? And where can you find the best
deals?
Campus Bookstore
Every book you will need for a class is available in the campus
bookstore. Usually colleges team up with companies like Barnes &
Noble to provide students with their textbooks and more contemporary
literature. If you want a great deal on your textbooks, skip the
campus bookstore all together. If money isn’t an issue (getting the
parents to pay, huh?), enjoy the convenience.
Used Bookstores
New textbooks range from $50 to $200. You can find your textbooks for
a fraction of the cost if you buy used. Many books in used bookstores
are in great condition.
Online
CollegeCodex.com offers an online bookstore for students you prefer to
have their books delivered to their door. It’s also a great option for
when bookstores sell out of your required text. Other online options
include www.ecampus.com and www.half.com.
Local Libraries
If you get a statistics book, you will probably use it every day. On
the other hand, if you get a poetry book, you may only use it for a
week. Consult your syllabus. You may be able to get out of buying a
book by just photocopying a chapter. |
