Dorm living can be a great experience. This guide discusses several of the benefits for living on campus.
Dorm rooms are closer to class, on
campus, better monitored, and closer to university dining and other
services than off-campus living arrangements. So if you are blessed
with a pleasant first year experience in the dorms you may want to
seriously consider staying on campus. Besides the excellent location
there is the issue of cost. Because most universities present the cost
of living by semester and rarely by month-to-month cost it often looks
like on-campus living is more expensive than off campus. What most
people do not consider is what is usually included in on-campus living
such as rent, internet, basic telephone, cable, trash, water and most
of the time electricity. By adding up the monthly costs of off-campus
living and multiplying it by the amount of months in a school year the
conclusion is almost always the same, there is no savings to be had in
living off campus.
