Campus Bookstores
Some universities have formed partnerships with America’s largest
computer suppliers. Partnerships with your university usually
means savings for you.
You’ll get a student discount; no questions asked. You’ll also
have the system set up for your university’s network. If your
campus bookstore sells computers, it is definitely the best option for
a student.
Retail Stores
When you buy a computer, you probably head down to your favorite
technology store. Most personal computer sales occur through
retail stores. And why wouldn’t you? Retail stores offer a
wide selection and a somewhat knowledgeable sales staff. Best of
all, you are to able pick out a computer and take it home right away.
Unfortunately, you may not be able to customize the computer that you
want. Most computer makers offer student discounts, and not all
retail stores may be able to honor those discounts.
Online Stores
When you buy online, you can actually build your own computer.
Features like DVD burners and wireless internet can be added by
clicking checkboxes. Students are also able to access a student
discount section, which provides price cuts and affordable payment
plans.
The down side with buying online is paying shipping and waiting for
your computer to arrive. Shipping is expensive, especially when
shipping a monitor, tower, and printer. Most products will not
arrive for a week or two as well. Best Buy, however, allows users to buy online and pick up at their nearest location.
